Welcome!
My name is MK and I reside in Pompano Beach, FL. This site represents my recent discovery of all things art and reaching back to my artistic roots of long ago.
During my elementary years, I spent my Saturday mornings at the Columbus School of Art and Design learning drawing and color theory, foundations of painting, and ceramics.
I ended up studying and graduating with a degree in Landscape Architecture from The Ohio State University and worked several years in the industry before running a 30-year home inspection franchise with my husband.
After selling our company a couple of years ago and also losing both my parents within the same time period, I found myself yearning to revisit my creative side that I had put on hold some 30 years prior. Art has become my therapy.
In 2020, I painted 100 (10x10”) canvases in 102 days — all faces — studying some of the greats like Van Gogh, Matisse, Picasso and Charles Schwartz. This year in 2022, I’m turning my attention to drawing and taking a portraits course. Eventually I’ll dabble in some stained glass, mosaics, ceramics, and whatever else sounds intriguing!
There’s so much to explore and I find the entire creative process exciting. Art is healing; it’s also inventive. My favorite part in this process is keeping an art journal and exploring different techniques.
Perhaps though, a recent revelation I had was reading about an artist, Carmen Herrera—currently 106 years old—who sold her first piece of art at the age of 89. She’s quoted that she hopes her “art will give some joy or pleasure or spark someone’s imagination...and her so-called ‘discovery’ at 89 will encourage others waiting for the bus”.
It’s never too late to learn. Whatever your creative passion is, go do it and have fun with it. Just start!
Love. Joy. Peace.
